TSF Academy Girls in Jefferson Cup Action

Monday, March 19th 2018

TSF Academy Girls were in action this weekend as they headed South to Richmond, Virginia to take on the Jefferson Cup 2018. The 2004 Girls carried on their recent run of success and made the seven hour drive home as deserved champions after a tense final. Two wins and a draw saw the 04's through to face Triangle United, of North Carolina, in the final. A back and forth game saw neither team able to break the deadlock and brought along the dreaded openalty shootout. After some near misses, great saves and cool finishes, the 04 girls lifted the trophy, victorious, registering their first Jefferson Cup Championship.

Girls Academy Manager and 04 Girls Coach, Patrick O'Connor, described the weekend as, "A welcome challenge. We are always trying to push our players and putting them into such a prestigious tournament at this time of year is an excellent test for everyone. I'm delighted with the way the girls have responded."

With the recent difficulties in terms weather and facilities, the timing for this year's Jefferson Cup was far from ideal, however by the close of play on Saturday all teams had a reasonable chance of making the final. The 2007 girls came up just short, drawing their last game to narrowly miss out on a shot at the Championship. The 2006 and 2005 girls both suffered narrow defeats to see their hopes of a trophy slip away. As always, the tournament provides a great learning experience for players and coaches alike and a great platform to springboard out of the Winter into a successful Spring Season.

The Jefferson Cup, regarded as one of the top rated youth soccer tournaments in the country, features some of the nationís top natural grass playing surfaces in the country with over 32 synthetic turf fields. Combining the nationís top level competition with the nationís top natural grass fields and synthetic fields makes the Jefferson Cup the #1 choice for March tournament competition.
